Everyone could do with some extra money in their pocket each week; however, whenever I talk to people about earning extra money, they usually think they have to get a second job or doing something that they don’t have the time for. So these five ways to make some extra money, if done right will not take up too much of your time and don’t require you to work a weekend job.

Get a Roommate (for homeowners and renters)
If you have a spare room in your house, consider renting this out. While it may suck having a roommate, it is the simplest way to earn some extra money each week. Getting a roommate is something my partner and I have done from time to time. We were looking at ways to save some extra cash for a holiday, so we decided to rent out our spare room. We continued to pay the same amount of rent each week as if it was just the two of us and then we saved the extra money to go towards our holiday. We both work long hours so having a roommate while not ideal it’s a small price to pay, to be able to use the money for an overseas holiday. Consider using sites like Flatmates.com.au

Airbnb your room or house (for homeowners only)
*Legal disclaimer, you could probably get away with this if you are a renter depending on what state you live in but remain on the legal side, this tip is for homeowners only.

If you have a spare room, then consider using Airbnb.com.au to earn yourself some extra money. The best things about using a site like Airbnb is, you can switch it on and off whenever you like so instead of having a permanent roommate you can choose when it’s available. If you’re not keen on having a stranger living in your house while your home. You could go one step further and could consider renting out your entire house or unit on the weekends to earn even more money. This strategy is something I heard from friends of mine who started renting out their house on weekends and are earning themselves a lot of money each week. They decided to rent out their home on a Friday and Saturday night and go camping on the weekends. Camping for cost them approx. $25 per night and they can rent out their house for about $200 – $250 per night which is pretty amazing. They are doing this to save money to buy their second property and also help fund their wedding. Not only are they able to earn some extra money each week but they love doing it because it gives them an excuse to get outdoors on the weekends.

Sell your unused shit on gumtree or facebook marketplace
We collect a lot of stuff and some of that stuff is worth a lot of money. So this might be furniture, white good or old iPhones. It is as simple as snapping some photos of your stuff and posting it on facebook marketplace or Gumtree.com.au. If you love your fashion look at selling your old clothes on sites like – DEPOP. There would be easily a couple of hundred of dollars laying around your house.

Put your car to work
If you use public transport to get to and from work each week or if you travel a lot for work and your car sits in the driveway all week, why not put your car to work and rent it out to people who need it. Consider renting out your car on sites like – Carnextdoor.com.au

Consider becoming a pet sitter and get paid to look after some friendly little pets
Some people can’t live without their pets, but when they go on holiday they need somewhere to leave their pets, or some are happy to let you stay at their house and let you look after their pets. Sites like mad paws offer some options for people looking to make some extra money; this might also be a way to tie in a weekend getaway at the same time. There are plenty of sites out there some are paid, and others are in exchange for free accommodation. Consider using a site like Madpaws.com.au
